There are three separate stories to tell but they all intertwine at the edges. The Night World, made into a book by L.J. Smith, is what all non-humans belong to. There are two rules that must be followed a all costs. To go against them is punishable by death.
1) One must never tell the humans about the Night World and those that live in it.
2) One cannot fall in love with a human.
In all three, the characters must make their choices; follow love or the law? It comes down to what would you and your lover give up for each other, for love? Because the outside world cannot know and all those who do get exterminated; that’s the law. For many of our characters the answer was simple before. Now that they’ve met their soulmates, however, things are fuzzier.
This book was an enjoyable light read (the content is light, not necessarily the book). Definitely geared more towards middle and high school aged people, I still enjoyed it. There were unforeseen twists and turns (maybe that’s just me though, I know that I’ll never make a good detective!) and I really like how all the stories loosely intertwined. I plan on reading the next two volumes in the series one day!
